Starting Small
Back in 2016, our journey began with a strong determination to support students in their pursuit of success. Dr. Mahdi Omar, the founder of MilVet Navigator, was then an respected IT Leader at Colorado State University (CSU). His frustration mounted as he witnessed the struggles of military-affiliated students trying to navigate the complex process of applying for educational benefits. Moreover, he saw the challenges faced by dedicated school certifying officials (SCOs) trying to assist these students in accessing benefits and understanding their eligibility.
Dr. Omar, fueled by a passion for creating a positive impact, assembled a team and forged a partnership with the Office of Veteran and Military Student Services (VMSS) at CSU. Together, they embarked on a mission to develop a solution that would revolutionize the experience for both students and SCOs alike.
The result of their collaboration was a groundbreaking veteran benefit application. This innovative platform brought much-needed transparency to the entire process, empowering military-affiliated students to grasp their eligibility with ease and apply for benefits seamlessly. Simultaneously, it transformed the way certifying officials carried out their crucial role, enabling them to provide invaluable support to students, helping them maximize their benefits and achieve greater success.

Service at Scale

Upon joining the Colorado Community College System (CCCS) Office, Dr. Omar leveraged his knowledge and expertise gained at CSU to develop an improved application, with broader impact and greater utility, for all 13 community colleges within CCCS. This new system, nicknamed the “Dream App”, surpassed its CSU predecessor in both features and functionality, revolutionizing how CCCS served its military-affiliated students. The positive impact was felt not only by students but also by certifying officials, who found their ability to assist students greatly improved.
Dr. Omar’s influence extended far beyond CCCS. In recent conversations with institutions across the United States, he discovered that many faced similar challenges with veteran and military benefits. Notably, these institutions expressed a keen interest in supporting an initiative for a more comprehensive, vendor-supported, software as a service (SaaS) solution tailored to the specific needs of VMSS offices. This overwhelming demand inspired the founding of MilVet Navigator Inc., registered in the state of Colorado, with a clear mandate: to bring the MilVet Navigator platform to life and embody the transformative vision that drives us today.
